Through recreation, Scouting achieves its purpose of helping young people develop physically, intellectually, socially, and spiritually. Scouting is all about building confidence and self-esteem, learning important life skills and leadership skills, team building, outdoor adventure, education, and fun!

While Baden-Powell in the quote below was referring to boys in England in the early 1900s, this quote seems all too appropriate for all of our youth today. We believe that the scouting programs are the right surroundings/environment to develop character, leadership skills, life skills, and good citizenship.
There are thousands of boys being wasted daily to our country through being left to become characterless, and, therefore, useless wasters, a misery to themselves and an eyesore and a danger to the nation. They could be saved if only the right surroundings or environment were given to them at the receptive time of their lives.
Robert Baden-Powell – Founder of Scouting
While team sports can also offer many benefits to our youth, far too often, it is the athletically gifted that are nurtured in that environment. Those with less such skills are left on the sidelines or on the bench. In the scouting programs, no one is on the sideline or on the bench. The entire unit is required to participate for the unit to be successful. The skills learned are real life skills, like planning, preparing, cooking, etc. In a properly run unit, the youth do the planning, and executing of the plan, not the adult leaders. In addition, it is important to understand that many scouts are ALSO participants in team sports. It does not need to be an either or situation.
Scouting rises within you and inspires you to put forth your best.

Centralville Sportsmen’s Club is committed to uphold the conservation of wildlife and natural resources. Therefore, the club is honored to be the Charter organization for both Cub Scout Pack 8 and Venturing Crew 308 as well as the sponsor for this Dracut Scouting website. It is the view of the membership that the scouting programs are in alignment with the values of our club. Scouting teaches our youth responsibility, pride, and integrity. Not only does the club charter Cub Scout Pack 8 and Venturing Crew 308, we make our clubhouse and grounds available to multiple Scout units (both BSA and GSUSA) for meetings, camping, and other events.
